We will review information supplied by you in relation to your family member who wishes to come to Australia. We may also need to speak to your family member and ask him or her some questions. We will consider the immigration law that applies to your family member's case and determine whether he or she has a valid opportunity to seek a family visa for residence in Australia.

When the application is completed, we will lodge it with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. Some applications can take up to 10 years to process. Unfortunately the processing time is out of our control.

5

Review outcome of family visa application and determine next steps

If the family visa application is approved, your family member will be able to come and live in Australia. If it is rejected, there may in some cases be an opportunity to dispute the rejection in a Court or Tribunal. If this happens, we will advise you as to whether we think you have a chance of succeeding if we dispute the decision. You and your family member can then decide how you would like to go forward.
